There is a magical connection between music and seniors. As part of our holistic approach to wellness at Woodland Terrace, we infuse elements of Music Therapy in daily-life for all residents to enjoy. Music Therapy is an excellent opportunity for all seniors because of its many positive benefits, and especially for seniors with dementia by providing meaningful memories of life experiences. Music Therapy at Woodland Terrace takes place in both individual and small groups and uses live instruments or the voice to engage the listener.

Music Therapy can:

  • Improve memory and recall
  • Improve mood and social interaction
  • improve speech
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Increase awareness and concentration
  • Increase mobility and coordination
  • Reduce pain
  • Reduce anxiety and stress

Our Musician-in-Residence is a board-certified Music Therapist with a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance who lives at Woodland Terrace as a member of the community. They bring both the enjoyment of music and the therapeutic aspect of Music Therapy to the residents through live, public and private performances. Our Musician-in-Residence works closely with local universities’ music programs to build collaborative partnerships and brings in local musicians and music students to perform on a regular basis. Our Musician-in-Residence also directs the resident choir, The Woodland Terrace Chorus.
